Siun sote J2 extension - professional glass walls
The extension of the North Karelia Central Hospital, Siun sote J2, includes facilities for the emergency department, intensive care unit and monitoring, as well as the wake-up room, children's centre and abdominal centre. The first part of the extension was commissioned in Joensuu in February and the new part will be fully operational in April 2020.
FP-Products supplied a total of approximately 1000 m2 of glass walling for the project, consisting of various types of glass walls, full glass doors and sliding glass doors. In addition, art doors and transition walls were supplied to the site. When, for example, a large number of different functionalities have to be procured, the professionalism of the suppliers becomes particularly important.
Precise measurement requirements and expert support
- The glass does not flex at all. It requires precision and specific knowledge of the product from the supplier. It was important for us that the supplier knew the boundary conditions of the product and what the product required from its environment. FP Products had absolutely brilliant sales and technical support: project manager Pekka Ojala really knew the products well and had a knack for telling us in a way we could understand why a particular thing had to be done in a particular way. Technical support for installation Ilari Ojanperä was extremely precise. He told us in concrete terms what kind of precision was required on site. These things were absolutely key to success," says the site engineer working on the project. Ani Parkkinen Rakennustoimisto K. Tervo Oy cooperates with FP-Products.
Skilled installation and reliable partners ensured quality
In addition to the space allocation solutions, FP-Tuotteet was also responsible for the on-site installation of the products. This time, FP-Tuotteet used a selected partner for the installation instead of its own installers.
- FP-Products clearly knows its partners particularly well, as the installer Joni Ekman was a great professional, Parkkinen continues.
”For glass products of this kind, it is important that the supplier has specific knowledge of their product. It is equally important that the supplier is able to explain the needs of the product to the customer in a way they can understand.”

A celebration of cooperation and excellence
Parkkinen is delighted with the successful cooperation that has been a hallmark of the entire hospital expansion project. The aim has been to make the hospital as good as possible for the end user.
- The end product must support the core function intended for it, in this case the hospital. We, as builders, are the supporting function and we strive to achieve the best possible end result through our own activities. This can only be achieved if all the players in the project are pulling in the same direction.
According to Parkkinen, the delivery of FP products was the culmination of the parties' expertise and cooperation at its best:
-FP products' space-sharing solutions were seen by us as a complete delivery without having to worry. We supplied the header and attachment surfaces from the suspended ceiling. FP-Products was then responsible for the actual installation of the products. The products seem to work incredibly well and we have not had to make any further adjustments after installation.
”The whole supply chain with FP-Product worked really well.”
