Hippos Day Care Centre - Convertible spaces and carefully designed acoustics

As wood is less sound-technically efficient than brick or concrete, for example, the sound insulation and acoustics of the kindergarten have been designed with particular care. The rest rooms, for example, are specially designed to ensure that the space is sufficiently soundproof. According to Koli, decibel regulations are challenging and demand a lot from the space allocators.

FP-Products supplied felt blankets to Hippos kindergarten paleovia, transfer wall and sound-insulating FP-Phonic -Artificial doora. Sound insulation was an important selection criterion.

- For example, the decibel value of the FP-Phonic steel door was such that we could not find a substitute elsewhere," says the Managing Director of Rakennusliike K ja M Lammi Oy, the company responsible for the construction. Jussi Lammi.

- The space allocation solutions have also been visually functional. For example, the felt-paneled French door has vertical wooden strips that match the other wooden surfaces in the nursery. The felt surface makes it pleasant to use and acoustically it is also a dampening surface," Koli continues.

We have already had the opportunity to try out the bifolding doors, transfer wall and art doors in the kindergarten. The doors are easy to handle and the handles of the transfer wall have already been practised.

- For all of us workers, partitions and partitioning are a new thing. We have received good training on how to use them. What has been particularly good about these solutions is the soundproofing. We had fun practically testing the sound insulation of two adaptable spaces. That is, two of our employees sang on one side of the shared space. The sound was only muffled in the other room, where we were. With these room-sharing solutions, it is very easy to have small group sessions or even several at the same time," says the director of the Hippos day-care centre. Minna Nylund.

The Hippos kindergarten site had a P1 cleanliness class requirement and was built under a weather shelter. The building is very interesting in its diversity. It contains a wide variety of structures and facades.

- All in all, this was a really great project. We've done daycare and nursery construction before and we have experience in wood and solid wood construction. But I have to say that this has been the most interesting of all our projects so far. The site is stunning both inside and out. We can be genuinely proud of it," says Jussi Lammi.
