Unexpected situations are instructive

FP products include products from Dorma Hüppe in Germany. Jakob Schwarzenberg, who works as a product designer at Dorma, came to Finland and FP Products to learn about the local culture.

During the autumn, the FP Products office has heard not only Finnish but also English-speaking chatter. A German speaker has been involved in the everyday life of the Space Makers Jakob Schwarzenberg, who was brought to Finland for six weeks by a work exchange programme.

In Germany, Jakob works for Dorma Hüppe, a manufacturer of transfer walls, whose high-quality products can also be found in From the range of FP products. Alongside her work, she is studying to become a technical product designer.

”I work at Dorma Hüppe part of the week and study the rest. Through my studies, I also had the opportunity to go on an exchange to another country and I decided to take it,” Jakob says.

With FP products, Jakob has been involved in many things. His job has included working in production, service visits, office work and attending various meetings and workshops.

”For example, I went to service the Dorma Variflex glass partition wall at the Eventum restaurant in the Nokia Arena. It was pretty amazing to see your company's product in action in practice,” says Jakob.

Working with FP Products has met Jakob's expectations.

”It has been great to see how much FP Products focuses on quality. All the people have also been really nice, and I've felt very welcome.”

During maintenance and installation visits, conversations in Finnish have gone beyond comprehension, but lessons have still been taken back home.

”It's been interesting to see how different situations can arise with space sharing. Especially the unexpected situations that can happen with products were really instructive,” says Jakob.

There are many similarities between cultures

Jakob is particularly fond of nature and architecture in Finland. On service visits, for example, he was able to see the new school buildings, which impressed him.

According to Jakob, Finnish and German working life and cultures have much in common.

”I come from northern Germany and at least in that region people are peaceful and quiet, like Finns. Finns and Germans also value responsibility. In addition, Germany has flexible working hours, as do many companies in Finland.”

During his free time, Jakob was able to visit several sights in Tampere, Turku Castle and see the northern lights in Lapland.

”With FP-products Pekka and I went hockey playing and hunting. I haven't had time to try sauna yet, but I have swum in the lake. Surprisingly, the water wasn't as cold as I expected!” Jakob says.

Although six weeks have passed quickly and it's time to go back home, another trip to Finland with friends is already planned.
